Layers of landscape, memory and time

Abstract landscape paintings exploring
place, material and belonging

Meet The Artist

A landscape carried back to the studio

I am a Scottish abstract landscape artist based in Dunbar, East Lothian. My work begins with walking and sustained observation of the landscape around me — its shifting light, tidal marks,
trees, weathered surfaces and traces of change.

Back in the studio, these observations meet memory and feeling. Through layers of paper, ink, paint, collage and natural pigments, I make paintings that sit between the landscape we see and the landscape we carry within us.

Layers, traces and chance

Layers, traces and chance

I work with translucent papers, fluid ink
and paint, collage and pigments made from or connected to the landscape. Some marks are slow and repeated; others are created by allowing water and pigment to pool, bleed and move beyond my control.

I am drawn to the point where intention
meets chance — where the marks made by my hand sit alongside those that feel closer to weather, erosion and time.
